Doc Eason Wins 2009 Academy AwardsLate one Saturday night in mid February, the phone rang and I was informed that I was nominated for both Close up Magician of the Year *and* Lecturer of the Year. I have been nominated more than a dozen times but it doesn't matter how many times, to be singled out from a pretty impressive lineup of performers is a special treat. Pretty sure I drifted off to sleep with a smile on my face.
The ceremony was to held in Hollywood on April 11th. Last year, after a dozen nominations and no payoff, my kids opted to *not* go along just to see dad disappointed again. Of course, the irony of last year is that I walked away with the Closeup Magician of the Year! This year, since Mack was already in LA going to law school, he was my "automatic" date for the evening.
It is rare that anyone wins two consecutive years, and even rarer to win in two categories on the same night so I really didn't know what to expect. My hopes were not particularly high but I was relaxed enough about it so that I was just happy to be invited to a grand party.
As it turned out, I won both categories and a wonderful night turned into a GRAND night. Here are a few photos but if you really want to get the inside scoop of what the weekend was like, check with my blog ... http://www.doceason.com/wordpress
